A modern well-functioning dry toilet is odourless and pleasant to use. A well-functioning dry toilet requires that certain basic rules have been observed when building, installing and selecting appliances.

The mass emptied from the Composting Toilet is in the process of composting and, therefore, can be transferred directly to the post-composting heap to mature for use as soil conditioner, or it can be spread around the roots of ornamental plants as such.

The waste accumulated in the collecting toilet is emptied into the compost for further processing. You can create a compost either in a closed composter or as a compost heap, for example, together with garden waste. Spread a plastic film or a tarpaulin on the bottom of the compost to avoid any leaks into the soil. Place a layer about 20 cm thick of coarse twigs on the tarpaulin to make the compost heap airy.

Always cover waste that you bring to the compost with, for example, bedding, peat or garden waste. Finally, you can loosely cover the compost heap with a tarpaulin in order to ensure that rain does not flush away the water-soluble nutrients.

You can use toilet compost as soil conditioner in the yard or garden. It is recommended for use on ornamental plants. If you wish to use toilet compost for edible plants, for hygienic reasons we recommend that you compost it for at least one year first. The nutrient content of the toilet compost is somewhat higher than that of a usual household or garden compost, but despite this, it pays to take care of normal fertilization of the plants.
