The unit must be used and maintained in accordance with the instructions, and its operation must be monitored regularly. Seep liquid created in a dry toilet can be conducted into the filter. Concerning use of the toilet, the instructions of the toilet unit’s manufacturer apply.
The following must not be routed into the filter: wastewater from a water toilet, grey washing water, rain or storm water, drainage water from foundations.
The operation of the filter must be followed monthly during the operating season. If the filter is operating well, it hardly smells at all or smells only slightly unpleasant. It is normal for a thin crust to be created on the surface of the liquid.
The filter masses can be left inside the filter over the winter. Their freezing does not damage the unit.
The masses must, however, be thawed out before conducting seep liquid to them.
The filter can purify up to 60 litres of seep liquid. After this the masses must be changed. Check whether the masses need to be changed, measuring the pH-value of the outlet liquid, using a pH-paper. The pH-value of the liquid must be at least nine. Only filter masses specifically intended for the Biolan Suotis may be used as filter materials. Biolan Oy does not guarantee the purification capacity of the unit if any other filter material is used.
Place the filter on an even, firm surface, not susceptible to frost. The filter must be in a horizontal position both lengthwise and laterally so as to allow the liquid flow to smoothly utilize the entire cleaning surface area of the filter materials. Install the filter so that the air can flow through the air grates in the cover into the filter.
Connect the pipe coming from the toilet to the lead-through rubber in the first compartment. Ensure a sufficient gradient (at least 1–1,5%), when installing the inlet pipe. Connect the outlet pipe to the lead-through rubber in the third compartment. Also when installing the outlet pipe, make sure that the gradient is sufficient to allow the liquid to flow without obstruction to the discharge point.
If the purifier is to be used in winter, the inlet sewer must be insulated. Whether the outlet sewer needs to be insulated shall be considered case by case.
The filter material is packed in plastic bags for transportation. Remove the plastic bags. At each compartment, a marking I, II or III can be found on the outside at the upper part of the filter. The bag labels bear the same symbols.
NOTE! Place the mass into compartment II first (two bags). Finally, level the surface of the mass.

The liquid flows from one compartment of the filter to another by gravity. The unit contains three different types of filter material.
The circulation of air inside the filter is natural. For ventilation the cover of the unit is fitted with four grates. The body of the filter is made of frost-resistant materials.
The capacity of the Biolan Suotis is sufficient for treating about 60 litres of seep liquid. After this, the masses need to be changed in accordance with the maintenance instructions. Depending on the toilet model and the frequency of use, the nutrient contents of the seep liquid may vary.
Provided that the filter is installed in accordance with the instructions, it has the capacity to make the seep liquid so clean that it can be conducted directly into the soil.
